Structural Fireplace Opening & Wood Burning Stove Installation Worthing BN11 — ECOSY+ TR5 Tall

The Brief

Martin contacted Surrey and Sussex Stoves with a fireplace that had been reduced over the years to a small, dated opening that did little justice to the chimney breast behind it. He wanted to know what was hiding behind it — and he wanted it brought back to life.

The vision was simple but striking — open the fireplace back up to its original structural height, install a beautiful Carrara marble hearth, and finish it with a classic, elegant wood burning stove that would become the focal point of the room.

This is exactly the kind of project we love.

The Work

Step 1 — Opening Up the Fireplace
The existing fireplace opening was small and tired. We carefully opened it up to its original structural height, removing the infill and making good around the reveal. This is skilled work — getting the proportions right makes all the difference to the final look.

Step 2 — Chimney Assessment and Lining
With the opening exposed, we assessed the existing flue and installed a new flexible chimney liner, sized correctly for the ECOSY+ TR5 Tall stove. This ensures the installation is fully Building Regulations compliant and performs safely and efficiently.

Step 3 — Bespoke Carrara Marble Hearth
A stunning bespoke Carrara marble hearth was installed — easily one of the most eye-catching elements of this project. The distinctive grey veining of the Carrara marble adds real character and works beautifully against the fresh plaster of the chimney breast.

Step 4 — Chimney Breast Reskim
The chimney breast was fully replastered to create a clean, smooth finish that frames the stove and hearth perfectly.

Step 5 — ECOSY+ TR5 Tall Installation
The ECOSY+ TR5 Tall wood burning stove was installed, connected to the new liner and commissioned. The tall, traditional styling of this stove suits the proportions of the opened fireplace perfectly — classic cast iron lines with a large glass door for an incredible fire view.

Step 6 — HETAS Sign-Off
As HETAS registered installers, we issued a full Certificate of Compliance on completion — giving Martin total peace of mind and keeping his home insurance valid.

The Result

The transformation is remarkable. What was a small, uninspiring fireplace opening is now a beautifully proportioned feature with a stunning Carrara marble hearth and a classic wood burning stove that commands the room.

Martin now has a fully HETAS certified, high efficiency wood burning stove that heats his Worthing home beautifully — and a fireplace that looks like it was always meant to be there.
